17 1/2 years of 27 seasons of MTV’s The Challenge. Here are some fun facts about the show!
All 8 cast members from the Real World: Las Vegas (2011) has participated in at least one season of The Challenge.
Adam 1, Michael 1, each Heather 1, Naomi 2, Dustin 4, Nany 5 and Leroy, 6. 21 total.
6 of the 7 cast members from Real World: Las Vegas (2002) have participated in at least one season of The Challenge.
Brynn 0, Arissa 1, Irulan 1, Steve 1, Frank 2, Alton 4, Trishelle 4. 13 total.
That means that in two seasons of Real World in Last Vegas, only one cast member has not appeared on The Challenge.
Las Vegas is also the site of the upcoming season of the Real World. This will make Vegas the first location to be used three times (unless you count Brooklyn and New York/Manhattan as the same place, in which case New York City was the first Real World “trilogy”).
While the Real World currently films its location trilogy in Vegas, The Challenge Rivals III is being filmed in Mexico.
Rivals will be the 3rd Challenge trilogy. The first two installments had same-sex pairs, with a winning female and winning male team. The rumors around Rivals III (see Reddit) reflect male-female pairs. The other two Challenge trilogies have not had the exact same team set up through the series.
Inferno was the first Challenge trilogy, then Gauntlet. The first Inferno was Real World vs. Road Rules, Road Rules won. The 2nd Inferno was Good Guys vs. Bad Asses, with the Good Guys winning. The 3rd Inferno was also Good Guys vs. Bad Asses, with the Bad Asses winning.
The first Gauntlet was also Real World vs. Road Rules, with Road Rules winning. In both Gauntlet II and III, the Rookies beat the Veterans.
While more than half the people on Bloodlines are new, if some seem very familiar, perhaps it’s because the 3 cast members with the most Challenge season appearances in some capacity are all on Bloodlines, in some capacity: Bananas, Aneesa and CT.
Most consecutive season appearances in a row (through Bloodlines):
Sarah (RW: Brooklyn) – 7
Cara Maria (Fresh Meat II) – 7
Camila (Spring Break Challenge) – 6
Derrick (Road Rules X-Treme) – 6
Veronica (Road Rules Semester at Sea) – 6
If the location of Bloodlines, Bodrum, Turkey looks familiar to you, it’s because it is. 2012 Battle of the Seasons was filmed there.
Cara Maria and Abram are on the same team (red) on Bloodlines. They were also on the same team in Battle of the Exes, and were eliminated episode 5.
If you don’t like teams, know that of the 27 seasons of the Challenge, only the Duel and the Duel II featured cast members competing as individuals for the entire season.
Finally, if it seems like every season someone quits, leaves due to illness or injury or is disqualified for some reason, that’s because it does happen ALL THE TIME. The Inferno (Season 8) in 2004 was the last time The Challenge season did not feature any cast member quitting, leaving because of illness or injury or being kicked off.
Remember Beth? She quit two seasons in a row: Inferno 2 and Gauntlet 2.
In Gauntlet 2, when T.J. Lavin finally became the host of the show, he had one of his best lines of all time, when he said to Beth, “I thought I told you to quit two weeks ago when the other quitters quit.”
Hopefully, there will be more excellent T.J. quotes to come as the season of Bloodlines continues tomorrow night with two new episodes.
