Bananas has no regrets, Sarah is still upset. Not a lot of interesting insight, though plenty of opportunity. The Rivals 3 reunion did not deliver. #ReunionFail
Nessa hosts the end of season show. As you’d expect, it starts with a re-showing of the cruel ending of the season, with Bananas taking all the winning prize money for himself. He justifies this as “don’t hate the player, hate the game” but still insinuates that this may have had something to do with Sarah screwing him over 2 seasons prior on Battle of the Exes 2. I don’t think Bananas’ decision would have been different if Sarah enabled him to go farther in Battle of the Exes 2, but he knows what makes good TV, so he plays his angles.
Sarah got upset and ran off, but calmed down and returned. Of course she’s upset and of course she says she wouldn’t have played him like that. Unfortunately, we don’t get to hear if Sarah thought this would happen and if she regrets not staying up all night on the stump.
Devin defends Sarah a lot, talking about how different this situation was than Battle of the Exes 2. Cory chimes in to say he understands that a game is a game. Wes kinda hugs both points of view before urging Nessa to move on to another topic.
I feel like in past seasons they have surveyed everyone at the reunion on things like if they’d do it again. Would have been interesting if everyone on stage was asked if they would have kept it all and/or think their partner would have. But we don’t get that. Reunion fail.
Hook ups is always a good topic! Nate and Nicole discuss that they did date, but it ended poorly, seemingly because of Nate. Not a lot of details were provided.
Jenna mentions that her and Zach are no more and that she thought Dario was hot. Nessa asks if anything could happen between Jenna and A-Rod look-alike Dario. It’s forced and Jenna does a nice job of reminding host Nessa that this isn’t a dating show.
Cheyenne and Cory are asked about their flirtation. Cheyenne says Cory is young (even though he must be older than her) and not ready for a serious relationship. She then mentions that she doesn’t kiss and tell. Too bad MTV cameras supported that, because we didn’t see anything all season.
Ashley insists that the people who were shown on TV hooking up weren’t the only ones hooking up. Yeah, we know. Nothing is mentioned of Devin and Camila, who were both present at the reunion, another fail.
Footage is shown, however, of Vince leaving the shower running at 4am and then Camila getting out of there 15 mins or so later. Vince & Camila deny the implied hook up. Camila is mad at MTV for editing to create something out of nothing. Sarah mentions that the shower and the toilet aren’t that close to each other, putting a hole in their denial story that Devin supports. After some bickering between Nessa and Camila, the show moves on.
Unfortunately, it moves on to the night when the guys wore their partners clothes, which is not particularly exciting.
Finally, we get to Devin & Camila. They say they had fun and are very casual about it. Immediately, we move on to Wes getting in a food fight and then Bananas smacking his butt with a cutting board. We see some Wes butt as footage is shown of the mark it left. Potential nudity points, but no! MTV doesn’t care about fantasy and saves this stuff for after the season ends.
This show is bizarre. It’s a weird mix of reunion and the S&*% They Should’ve Shown. How come Nessa spent so much time on Vince and Camila, but barely any on confirmed showmance Devin and Camila? It’s very odd and disjointed.
It concludes with “Challenged” awards, which seems like just an excuse to make fun of Nate for crying and Brandon for quitting.
So the big fight that ended Camila’s season is not acknowledged at all. There’s no talk about how nominating two teams changed the game. The reunion fails to follow up on the fact that the champions Bananas & Sarah both hinted at retirement. No mention of Thomas leaving because of his sick girlfriend. Is she okay? Speaking of girlfriend quitters, any news on if Brandon is even still with that chick?
Most importantly, this was the first season that MTV ran a fantasy league for the show and it was not at all discussed! How do the cast members feel about this? Would they draft themselves? Does Camila find any solace in the fact that at least her being kicked off made her a good fantasy pick?
All in all, the reunion was a disappointment.
