THE CHALLENGE XXX – EPISODE 16 – BREAKDOWN AND FANTASY SCORING

The Challenge XXX – Snaking Your Way Back In – Ep16

Four of the six finals spots are locked (Cara Maria, Tori, CT and Jordan). Who will snake their way back in and join the final? This may be a job for someone with more experience and strategic mindset than Kailah and Jenna.

Episode 16 – Series #372

Title: The Sinister Six

The final four go on a boat ride to a private island. Three from the Redemption House (CT, Jordan and Cara Maria) and the “Rookie of the Year” Tori.

Back at the house, Tony is stressin’ about how bad it’s going to be if he gets this close to the final and goes home. Hunter’s wrist is totally messed up. He can barely feel his fingers.

“The next day” (or however much time passes – tough to tell with TV magic) it’s time for Snaking Your Way Back In to fill those last two spots in the final. There’s a giant structure suspended 30 feet over the water. Each competitor has two blue ropes to shimmy their way across this structure with, then transfer to a yellow rope and take that off the edge.  Whoever swims to the buoy and wraps the rope around the buoy first wins.

Because last week’s challenge was a “purge” and this is Snaking Your Way Back In, it seems like this a Redemption Challenge. However, at the last Redemption Challenge we were told that was “the last Redemption Challenge.” After a lot of arguing and careful consideration, this is actually an Elimination Challenge.

With the final four watching, the guys go first. Hunter is really screwed on this challenge with a busted wrist. Tony has two good wrists, but no strategy. Derrick (RR) takes a quick lead. He knows this is his to lose and he is careful enough not to fall. Derrick wins easily (25 points).

Hunter is bummed, but hey, he had a busted wrist. Tony made it about one foot farther than Hunter, solidifying his place as the least consistent competitor on the season.

The Challenge XXX -Kailah & Jenna Going Nowhere – Ep16

When the girls go, what should be a tight race between three good competitors isn’t. Jenna and Kailah never figure out how to shimmy the ropes. Camila quickly figures out that she needs to be on one rope at a time and moving the other rope when it has no weight on it.

Jordan and the other spectators are blown away by the fact that Jenna and Kailah aren’t even looking at Camila to copy her form. Camila wins (25 points) with no problem. T.J. says they “dominated” which is true, but not “you killed it.”

T.J. comes to the house to announce that 3rd place gets $15,000 each, 2nd place gets $35,000 each and 1st place gets $450,000 each. The pressure is on. Oh, and you don’t get money unless you finish. The final is in Argentina. The final will be run sometimes in pairs and some parts individually. T.J. isn’t going. He says to “follow the road maps carefully” as they’re the key to this.

After arriving in Argentina,  Derrick (RR) gets the “good luck” from his son and Tori cries (5 points) talking to her sister about how nervous she is. Then, the remaining competitors are informed by video on their phone by T.J. that they’ll be skydiving 20,000 feet into this final challenge. The final will be a series of timed stages.

The Challenge XXX – Crying Cara Maria – Ep16

Everyone is pumped, except for Cara Maria who is freaking out about skydiving. Jordan tells her it’s the second bounce that can kill you, Cara Maria wipes tears from her eyes (5 points).

The Challenge XXX – SKYDIVING – Ep16

As they get suited up for skydiving, Cara Maria cries again (5 points), while everyone else is completely pumped. They jump tandem. Everything is great until CT sees that they’re not landing in a field, but on a dirt road with stones lining it. CT lands a little funny, ripping his shorts and making him feel a little sore in the leg.

Jordan, who insisted that his instructor/tandem pro go all out with him, has a really rough landing. They come in way too fast and slam into the road.

Jordan is put in an ambulance and asks to get out and walk it off. He hobbles to Tori. He complains about his knee, but he has to try to run this final. Meanwhile, Camila and Cara Maria land off the road somewhere and get a ride over to the road.

The crew gets nice clean red shirts and another video clue from T.J.

The Challenge XXX – Jordan Crash Lands – Ep16

They’re in the Incan ruins and there are not many other clues than that. Thankfully, there’s a sign with instructions by a pile of rocks. They have to go up a maze of ruins. CT is finding the altitude troubling. At the top, they learn they have to work in opposite sex pairs of their choice to find 30 painted stones and bring them to a specific location. Derrick (RR) grabs Cara Maria because she’s there first and this is a race. Jordan teams up with next-to-arrive Camila and that leaves CT and Tori together.

The stones are heavy. Derrick (RR) is carrying three stones on the first run. CT is carrying four. Jordan is carrying four and feeling the pain in his knees. The teams go up and down this mountain maze.

Camila and Jordan found a shorter path, which helps and puts them seemingly in a lead as we are yet again left hanging until next week, when we see part two of this final.

The Challenge XXX – CT & Tori Collecting Stones – Final Phase 1 – Ep16

Stray observations:

  • Cara Maria says she’s read that people die jumping out of planes. Yeah? Where’d you read that Cara Maria?
  • So I guess next week is the 2nd half of this final and then the week after is the reunion, where we learn who wins. A good season, but it really is dragging, which makes sense because it’s 18 episodes long! THIS SEASON STARTED IN JULY!!!
  • There will be crying and vomiting points next episode, but since we won’t know who wins next week (we find out at the reunion), that’s about all we’ll see fantasy-pointswise.
  • Would like to take this line to just note how badly Tony, Jenna and Kailah crapped out on the Snaking Your Way Back In challenge. They seemed to barely move at all. This was the challenge to make it to the final, to be eligible for money. None of them even tried a reckless strategy and fell. They seemingly sat on their butts and tried to wiggle.
  • Can MTV just accept that the final is not the most exciting thing to watch and make it just one episode? Thanks.
  • I know some people think the skydiving is a waste since it’s not something one competitor is necessarily better that than another, but watching the cast skydive on Road Rules is what made me want to go skydiving (have gone 5 times – and every time I see it, I want to go again). I don’t know how it is for other fans, but part of the joy of the challenge is watching them do cool stuff that you want to try doing.
  • Definitely seems like Jordan is the only one who has been skydiving before.
  • Hey, Jordan has a bike company. He trying to be the next Wes? #Entrepreneur
  • Between being a bigger guy and a smoker or former smoker, the altitude is really bad for CT.
