THE CHALLENGE XXX – Reunion – BREAKDOWN AND FANTASY SCORING

The Challenge XXX – Reunion Pt 1

Overacting hyper-upper Miz standing next to super-chill T.J. is quite the contrast.

This hour of TV was as frustrating as it was confusing. Miz calls it the “finale”, but it’s not.

The tone of this reunion (which is what it actually is) is odd from the start. It’s a talk show, but it’s also a perfect reflection of a season that dragged on with too much strategy talk, overuse of the word “dirty,” and odd production interaction in order to try to make more drama.

It starts with Miz asking quick questions about the strategy, cast and format to cast members like Aneesa, Derrick (RR), Veronica and Nicole so that they didn’t show up for no reason at all.

Jordan tells a half-truth about being able to pull the double-cross. He says he always looked for the one that’s different, which seems true, and that there was a bug on one, which does not seem true.

In reliving the veterans vs. “young bucks” (Bananas vs. Cory) aspect of the season, Cory and Bananas argue because they desperately want to be partners on a season of Rivals 4.

There’s a discussion about where Jordan was in this clash of crews. Jordan says that once he said Hunter’s name, it made the most sense to keep having that one enemy. Leroy points out that no one seemed to know where Jordan stood, that he was rogue. In true Jordan form, he announces he’s not afraid nor intimidated by anyone.

Then we discuss Nelson getting kicked off. Nelson takes ownership of his mistake, while recognizing that Derrick (RR) is an experienced veteran who knows you don’t walk away, you let the hothead dig his own grave.

After a break, we come back to talk about Simone and Shane’s fight in the Redemption House (the other time someone was kicked off this season). Shane denies he slapped Simone, though he apologizes for not walking away and for getting in her face. Simone explains what she remembers happening. They tell very different stories. It’s quite telling that Shane is pleased when Miz brings up that there’s no camera footage and that Amanda jumps in from behind Miz to express her disgust with Shane. Remember  Amanda, Devin and Latoya were there when this fight broke up.

But like a true Raines family tradition, admitting mistakes like slapping a woman or cheating on her doesn’t come naturally. Playing it down and acting like they are  sorry, but for a significantly milder offense is their strategy.

The Challenge XXX – Reunion Pt 1 – Derrick (AYTO) and Tori

Upon returning from another ad break, Miz reminds us of the Derrick (AYTO) and Tori relationship. Tori said she had different challenge experience than Derrick (AYTO) and found “something else,” but Derrick (AYTO) calmly states that she found someone else and that someone else was Jordan. He said that Jordan and Tori hooked up in L.A. on their way back from The Challenge.

How does he know this? Anonymous SnapChat and texts from a number he blocked. Production? Challenge cast member?

Tori apologizes for not being totally honest with Derrick (AYTO) and admits that she hooked up with Jordan after The Challenge while “on a break” from Derrick (AYTO). Tori actually says she “experimented” with Jordan, which is unintentional humor at its best.

Derrick (AYTO) came out and visited over 4th of July and then Tori got a bunch of texts with screenshots of text messages between her and Jordan. Tori was livid that her privacy was invaded so she hired a private detective. Tori pretty much says it’s probably Derrick (AYTO), but she’s not sure. It was a Google number from New York. Could be Derrick (AYTO), could be MTV production. Who knows? Who cares?

These two are clearly broken up and it’s all done. MTV tries to go full drama by getting thoughts from two of Tori’s “exes” – who are just cast-mates from her season of Are You The One? It’s stupid. Tori feels kinda bad that she strung Derrick (AYTO) along, and Derrick (AYTO) has no interest in ever talking to Tori again because she couldn’t “keep it real.”

Moving on… to more drama. Cory is seated in between Kailah and Aneesa. The other cast member Cory hooked up with (Camila) isn’t at the reunion. Cory denies hooking up with Camila on the beach (okay). Miz asks Kailah why Cory is blocked on her phone. Kailah’s all, “how do you know that?” Miz says he knows everything. How much stalking does MTV do? Maybe as much as cast members deny hooking up… Aneesa and Cory deny making out in the kitchen early this season.

The Challenge XXX – Reunion Pt 1 – Cory Sandwich

This is not working out the way MTV wanted it to. This is not entertaining, until Miz asks Cory to play, “$%#^, Marry, Kill” with his three “exes” from the season. Cory answers easily. $%#^ Kailah, kill Camila, marry Aneesa. Kailah’s just happy she’s not getting killed.

Hey, it’s finally time to find out who won. And the reveal is happening via double-cross. Camila isn’t at the reunion (more likely because of a fight she had with production during Champs vs. Stars rather than her racist attack at Leroy during the season), so T.J. stands in her place.

Those who pull a single-cross in the first pull came in 3rd. CT and Tori pull single-crosses, meaning they came in 3rd (10 points) and won $15,000 each.

The Challenge XXX – Reunion Pt 1 – 3rd Place Reveal

Seeing as Miz teased finding out the winners during the entire hour of this show, I seriously thought the Miz was joking when he said winners will be revealed in the Reunion Part II next week. But apparently that’s how this is going down. THIS IS THE MOST DRAWN OUT SEASON EVER!!! 19 episodes? I hate you, MTV.

This season really could have been good if it were concise.

Stray observations:

  • Cara Maria can barely stand the long, drawn out reveal of who won. She just wants her money, damnit!
  • When will people learn the “on a break” thing NEVER ends well. Just break up and call if/when the hook-up you were going for ends/doesn’t work. Or not.
  • Obvious topics to be discussed next week: Tony cheating on Baby Mama #2, Kailah vs. Cara Maria (a probable team to beat on The Challenge Vendettas), Camila being racist maybe? – What else do you think they missed and/or will talk about in the 2nd edition of this reunion? Comment on the post or tweet us at @OfficiallyUnoff
  • Camila tweeted that she’s not at the reunion because of personal issues, including a death in the family.
  • What was the deal with the weird V.I.P. area of the reunion?

Final scores to be tallied next week, because MTV doesn’t think we’d keep watching otherwise.

But the scoring is Tori & CT (10 points).
